Diabetes mellitus (DM) affects more than 382 million people around the
world, of whom 90% are diagnosed with type-2 DM (T2DM) [1]. The
prevalence of T2DM has increased dramatically during the last 2 decades.
The Arab world is not immune from this epidemic in the prevalence of
T2DM. In fact, the Middle Eastern and North African region has the
second highest rate of increase in diabetes globally, with the number of
people with diabetes is projected to increase by 96.2% in 2035 [1,2].
